I very much doubt it. Schools would need full time insurance admin people and the cost would be prohibitive
if you have a locker which you've paid a deposit for (for the key being lost and replacing it/replacing a damaged locker) is the contents ensured if the locker gets broken into and the contents stolen?

any idea where i can find out without asking the school directly. K, x
What was the item and where was it stolen from. Was it left in the care of a member of staff or in a secure locker?
there ahasn't been anything stolen yet but i saw this question and i thought of the question i asked.
The short answer is no - schools do not insure pupils' property. However if you can show that the school is legally liable for a loss (e.g. if an item was given into their safe keeping and they just lost it) then they will have liability insurance to cover that. It would be the Local Education Authority you would claim against. You would however have to prove (a) that the school staff formally accepted the item into their care and (b) that the loss results from negligence on their part. If stolen during a break in there would usually be no negligence.
Best to arrange cover yourself - your household insurers may be able to extend cover under your policy.
I had to pay £5 deposit for damage/ loss of key. Does that count for anything?
