Police recruitment - drug testing?
4 Answers
Hi
I\\\'m thinking of joining the police. A few years ago I used to use recreational drugs. I have been completely clean now for 2 years, although I\\\'ve had some cannabis around twice in the last six months. I certainly do not make a habit of it, nor do I intend to do it again. I am against class A drugs now to the point where I campaign against them.
When the police drug test new recruits, do they disqualify everyone who has taken drugs in the past or just ones who have taken drugs recently?
Thanks, J

You say you've been clean for two years, but you've still used cannabis. Six months isn't very long, and drugs is drugs, if they're illegal, whatever their classification.
I'm not criticising you, understand. I really don't have a problem with cannabis use per se, but the police do, I would imagine. You'll no doubt come into contact with a fair amount of it on the force and you'd be employed on trust not to partake of it. If I thought that the copper nicking my colleagues for possession was taking possession him- or herself, then I'd have even less respect for the law than I do now.
