Expressing milk at work

is this acceptable? She used the stock cupboard as the loo wasn't acceptable. The babe was at her home & she was 'stocking up' for tonites feed.

Who said the loo wasn't acceptable? Was the loo not acceptable to the mother or was it not acceptable to others that she was expressing milk in the loo? I feel sorry for her that the only place she felt she could do this was a cupboard.

I can't really see what the problem would be with a mother breast feeding or expressing milk in the ladies'. Or does it bother you that she is doing this when you think she should be working?

the loos are clean but she wasn't comfortable using them. I would rather she was at home with her babe as it hasn't been weaned, than at work.

There is mixed staff and most weren't happy. It's delicate.....so wondered what thoughts abers had?

if she dosent express she could end up with real problems and pain too.....its the law that workplaces are breastfeeding friendly....xx

We have mothers (visitors) breast feeding but this was an employee simply expressing milk in private.

Sounds to me like the rest of the staff are the ones with the problem, as long as the mum is discreet, then they should be a bit more sympathetic, not unhappy with the situation, as Tinkerbell says, it can be extremely painful for the mum if she doesn't express the milk

Tamborine, it sounds like you disapprove of her coming back to work so early, which is a different issue to whether or where breastfeeding/expressing should be allowed in the workplace.

There are other examples of when an employee might need a bit of personal space and the toilet might not be ideal ... a diabetic taking insulin, taking an urgent delicate phone call from a family member, praying ... ideally a workplace should have a quiet corner or room for these kinds of thing.

So where do the visiting mothers breastfeed?

they breastfeed in the staff room. I dont disapprove but am sad she has to return to work so early. Am trying to accommodate her and hope it wont be for too long.....though some mums breastfeed 5y olds now :(
