On a yearly basis I receive a threatening letter from a company called Credit Account Management (CAM) on dodgy letterhead with a PO box address in Weybridge. Stating I have an outstanding balance of £289.35 with KAYS/Shop Direct. I used Kays about 8 years ago and made a one off payment for an item I ordered the account was settled. Over the last 2 years I have been receiving these letters saying my account has now been passed to Phoenix Recoveries and I must pay this outstanding amount at a post office using the barcode on the bottom of the letter. I checked my credit report on Experian I have an excellent credit record, no outstanding debts etc. I have been advised not to reply or enter into a conversation with this company and just ignore letters, as any debts after 6 years old are "statute barred" anyway. Is this some kind of scam? Seems strange they only demand money on a yearly basis....

Yep, sounds like some sort of scam to me, and that does sound like goos advice.
Have a look at the last two postings to this forum http://www.consumerac...count-management.html
Send the company an e-mail and see what the response is.
Sounds like someone's angling for Christmas Present money, probably some clever kid in his mums bedroom or could be a global scam netting millions! Report to the police, get legal advice, shut them down.
