Employer prevents me from seeing dr

I'm new here & probably did this wrong. But here's the story. I drive a truck long haul. My employer's requirements are such that I seldom get home for very long. I try to schedule dr appointments for times when I'll be home but my employer is unreliable in getting me home on the date I request. I'm always late by several days to a week. I can't even adjust for that because my employer is so inconsistent. I have missed about 5 or more appointments which had to be cancelled because my employer fails to give me a reliable date I can be home & makes me late every time.

My question is, Can my employer be liable for causing additional suffering if I have a condition that would have responded to treatment if caught in time? Or am I completely on my own? Do I have to quit to be able to see a dr? (In which case, I'd lose my health insurance, such as it is)?

We are guaranteed (sic) only one day at Christmas. The actual 'getting home for Xmas' is subject to weather permitting. This co keeps drivers on the road all other holidays. I don't mind the 4th of July, for instance. But Thanksgiving & Christmas, even Easter I'd like to be with my family.

My daughter got married in September. I used my vacation to nail that one down. Even so, the co INTERRUPTED my vacation time to make me go deliver a lousy load for them! I thought that was just way RUDE!

Then you work for the wrong employer. Go and find a new one...

Alternativly so sick or make an emergancy appointment when you are home.
