A couple of questions as i have had a letter from them regarding the job T&C's
POINT 1- Normal office hours are Mon - Fri but you may be expected to work additional hours 9which may include weekends and bank holidays) as the demands of the business require. no additional payment will be made for such hours.
POINT 2- We reserve the right to extend your probationary period should it be deemed necessary. (I have agreed a pay rise at the end of the probatinary period)
Has anyone else ever had these clauses and if so what is your opinions please?

I've just read the original postings and my head is spinning. In response to today's points, I'd say Point 1 - no-one works overtime for no pay. Are they offering time off in lieu instead? and Point 2 - get some clarification as to the possible reasons that your probationary period might be extended and for how long. If you don't nail them down to a definite answer, they could be extending it until you die of old age. It sounds to me as if they are going down the route of 'get someone cheap, don't give them a permanent contract then sack them with no come back'. I'd not touch this job with a bargepole unless I got some cast-iron guarantees in writing. 15K pa for all that hassle? I don't think so!
Point 1 - not on £15k pa salary. Fair enough when one reaches management grade but not for chicken-feed.
Point 2 - it's irrelevant what they put here. You can be dismissed with notice for no reason until you have 12 months continuous service so a 'probationary period' doesn't have much meaning when it comes to employment law. Check though if some of the benefits don't come during the probationary period. I've seen jobs that aren't pensionable whilst on probation.

Your second post puts a different complexion on the face of this company .
I would not touch this company with a barge pole. Kim A has it spot on -- get someone cheap etc.
Putting itabsolutely bluntly , you will be working your whatnames off for nowt.!!!
No time off on lieu, no promotion prospects -- forget it.
The clothes issue you mentioned earlier I could live with , and I stand by what I wrote , but terms and conditions like these you now outline are the pits ,and I am very sure you are worth so much more.
I find it beyond belief and this is with no disrespect to you -- that here is a company where everyone swans round in designer gear and accepts the most dreadful contract conditions., and low salaries. Are they all that desperate , or mental.?
Forget it -- you are worth so much more.
Good luck in whatever you choose to do about the issues you have raised.Brenda.

Thanks for the replies- they have been very helpful indeed.
To answer a question there is no time of in lieu.
Tomorrow I will be writting a letter to say I will not be excepting the job. Its really difficult with salaries like this- and the government wonder why young people cannot get on the housing ladder! *sigh*

unfortunately with the way things are the huge amount of imigrant workers (yes they still come in by the 100s of thousands per year) companies are having a field day. Unfortunately its up to that very honest goverment of ours to stop for one moment from their exspenses claims and start looking to what people at the bottom of the ladder need. we live in a time where the question is not: is it right, is it fair is it moral but: can we get away with it. and yes they can because the law is full of what are called loop holes but which infact are not more than things that were left to peoples fairness and judgment. Unfortunately these days everything has to be legislated just to try and make it fair
