We keep being told by the government that unemployment is the lowest for many years,but does anybody how many jobs have been lost through redundancy in the manufacturing industry over the past year???

Oh yeah, you also need a level of unemployment to stop inflation accelerating away at an uncontrollable rate, it's called the non accelerating inflation rate of unemployment (NAIRU), hope this helps..
According to the National Office of Statistics its about 13.7 people per 1,000 employees. Which is just 1 more than in construction. Whether you believe government statistics is up to you.....

The reality is the manufacturing industry isn't really decreasing in size although the employment rate is going down. What's happening is that the need for manual machines and in-person operators is not needed because of the advancements in CNC manufacturing. This is actually more beneficial to the economy because people can work in more needed sectors such as the services while utilizing CNC machines to take care of the more laborious tasks such as metal working and general manufacturing.
