Got a touch of social anxiety and lack of assertiveness and confidence etc. and just started a new job.

Somedays I don't feel like I can go to work and do the job because of above reasons.

Whats the best cure - just keep trying my best and try and hide my lack of confidence? Some people at work have said to me they have noticed I am shy! so i'm not hiding it very well.

I managed to come across really smiley and confident in my interview and now I feel as though they might see that I'm not so confident as I appeared. My worst fear is that they will think they made a mistake employing me

What do you do?
What is the Job ?
If you can do it well then that really is all that matters to your Employer >
Is it 'Groundhog Day' again, already.....................?
If you know your job there's no reason for feeling insecure. Do what you suppose to and smile and be pleasant to everyone who crosses your part. Have a good day!

''try and hide my lack of confidence?''

That may work for a while but it's not solving the root problem...

hotel receptionist

my last job I was just sat doing back office admin work not meeting many people for 5 m. Then I was in retail for 3 months. I wanted this new job because its more money and theres more interesting things going on but of course that means there are more people about and I actually have to deal with people face to face.
the best cure in these situations for social anxiety and lack of assertiveness and confidence, is to be pleasant and do your job well. then build on it from there when hopefully you will receive compliments and obtain new friends.

true snags. I don't know how to fix this though. I thought if I just keep trying new things and pushing myself I will be more confident but I don't seem to get more confident. I am not confident in knowing what to do in the job at the moment either as I have only been there 3 weeks. I'm sure it will get better.

I want to earn good money and to do this you need to progress in you're career don't you which is why I'm doing this even though I don't feel confident. I just worry it will all come crashing down and they will realise I'm not up to the job or something.
''as I have only been there 3 weeks''

Give it time... your employers think you are capable, or they wouldn't have offered you the job...
I think your confidence will grow as you get used to the job......after a while things you worry about doing become much easier so the stress disappears. I took on a job after I'd retired from my 'proper' job and it was totally different to what I'd been doing before. It was a worry for a couple of months but once I'd got into the swing of things I quite enjoyed it.....
well Karma...keep in mind that the other person is a person just as you are, and they need your help because they don't know what you know. you are there to assist them and point them in the right direction (assuming you will :-)}
i've been doing my job for about 20 years and i am still clueless.
^ now that fills me with confidence lol...
It's a matter of confidence in your own ability to do the job. Rome was not built in a day, so once you have been in the job a few months and understand the ins and outs of it, you can look back and wonder why you worried in the first place.
It's nice to meet new people which will give you the confidence to move on.

Thanks everyone. :-)

I'll keep at it - my last job did take me 3 months to just feel like I was beginning to settle in so I know it will take time. Everyone else seems so much more confident not just with their job but in themselves too but as long as I get confident enough to do the job I will be happy.

lol society :-)

Ankou - how?
so Ankou......do you work for the IRS or the DWP?

thanks everyone :-) I feel better about going in today now! x
yes, starting a new job is always a learning curve; everyone feels nervous. Once you've got on top of that, you'll find that having done so boosts your confidence.

I've always thought the words of The King and I got it right:

While shivering in my shoes
I strike a careless pose
And whistle a happy tune
And no one ever knows
I'm afraid.

The result of this deception
Is very strange to tell
For when I fool the people
I fear I fool myself as well!

Not so much a matter of 'fooling yourself', perhaps, but if you seem confident people will assume you are confident and they'll be happy and that will make you happy - problem solved. Just don't fret if it takes a while
