My employer has suddenly changed my regular day off after two years of working the same rota. We work on a two weekly rota where every second weekend has to be worked. When it is my weekend on I get the Friday before it and the Monday after as my days off. After two years of this my new departmental manager has decided that I need to be in on the friday and have to take the thursday instead. Can they do this after so long? I'm really not happy about it. Thanks.

How much notice have they given you?
hi mate....it all depends on what hours are written down on your contract........if the hours you have been working for the last two years are in the contract then they may not make changes untill the next contract....but if it simply says x amount of hours then i think he can make you do differant hours!!!!
They have to give you reasonable notice, probably 2 weeks would be reasonable.

factor30, No notice was given I was just told thats the way it is now. And its only our dept thats doing this.
And b4dat - I dont have fixed hours, just 39 per week, but isn't there something about having worked it for so long that it becomes an agreement?
The must have given some notice.

Nope, we were simply told that the next rota would have the amendments, and it did. This was on a friday, the new rota was made up on the following Monday. But it seems that its entirely a personal issueg with our new departmental manager, who was transferred in from another branch, no other dept managers do this.
