Student Loans through the Summer holiday
12 Answers
I know that student loans are paid in September, February and April, but what happens in the three months after that if you are going on to your second year, do we get paid during the summer break or does the April payment have to last until the new term?

In my student days summer jobs were plentiful and if we wanted a few weeks off work we could claim 'social security' over the summer but that no longer applies.
Yes, they are only loans and will need to be repaid- but only once income exceeds a certain figure (or unless the student returns toverseas and can't be traced).

I've found it helpful to set have two accounts, one which my loan gets paid into and then one that I transfer some of each instalment in. This money is then only there for emergencies and if I don't use it between instalments it goes in my ISA for use on a trip to America after I've completed my NQT year of teaching!
Well you didn't say, so how were we to know? And for many students, what danchip and I have said is quite true - they either get jobs or go home and sponge off mum and dad for three months of the year because student loans are only expected to support them whilst they're actually at uni.
I will not back off because I've been there. I was 37 with two kids when I did it. I also had a p/t job. My partner's meagre income had to take care of the rest.
