Income support and council tax benefits
4 Answers
I live with my elderly parent in their own house, who receives DLA and council tax benefit and i am the full time carer in receipt of carers allowance and income support. My boyfriend wants to move in, he is in full time employment. I know this will affect my income support, will it also affect the council tax benefit? It would seem unfair that he has to pay council tax when the house is not his.

When my Mum moved in with us it did not affect our housing benefit or council tax benefit because of the higher rate care for DLA. Also 2 0f our girls now work and this has not affected either benefit because of the DLA.
It is very likely it will affect the council tax benefit. He will be treated as a "non-dependent" & an amount will be dedcuted from the council tax benefit based on his income. However, it may be that the figures will work out in such a way that there is not a reduction. You can get this checked by going to your local CAB with all the details of all the beneifts & your boyfriend's income.
