As some of you may know I was recently made redundant. There was less work coming in so 3 womens jobs turned into 1. One woman went voluntary and me and another woman went for the one job. The other girl got the job as she'd been there 17 years compared to my 13. Anyway I was asked to leave after a week and the other woman who went voluntary was asked to leave after a month as she got paid monthly. Anyway I went in to give her a leaving present when she was due to leave and she said they have now asked her to stay as they are too busy. Is this fair?

It can happen. Redundancy can be withdrawn or postponed by the employer. Are you asking whether it's fair that she has been asked to stay rather than you?
Question Author
yes you would think that they should have asked me seen as I didnt go voluntary, but then I guess as you said they could withdraw it
I know it's not nice for you 4get but it could be that if all 3 of you had gone for the job then the one who opted for voluntary redundancy may have been their 1st choice so they have found a reason to keep her. Don't get too upset I'm sure you've realised that lots of people keep their jobs or get promoted for reasons that are not entirely professional (who they know, do they have connections outside work etc) Certainly goes on at my place. Good luck with your job hunt anyway
It sounds hugely unfair to me.

She's probably shagging the boss.

we didnt all go for job. she was going to leave because she had only been there 2 years and wasnt on the money she wanted. I have no hate towards her at all as when they asked her to stay I said I hope theye are paying you more and she said she had asked for more. I dont want my job back at all, just wondered if there was anything illegal about it all.
Well that's another way of putting it!
Question Author
no that was the other one panic lol
What, the one who got the job initially?
Question Author
no I was joking lol
Perhaps you should have tried it.

That sounds really infuriating.

yer did pee me off a bit
What you describe is not only unfair but is unlawful in my opinion, based on what you have said. A redundancy situation did not apply.

You could consider making a claim for unfair dismissal.
You have 3 months from the termination date in which to register a claim.
Question Author
but would I still be able to keep any redundancy money I had and make a claim?
