Pharmaceuticals as a career

I am very interested in this field and have been looking into how to 'get in' over the last couple of months. According to the NHS careers website I would have to apply for a Pharmacy Assistant apprenticeship with the hopsital and then train from there. Which sounds good in principle, I have been searching my local Hospitals (4 in all) for all vacancies for the last 8/9 months and nothing like this has come up. I have tried googling to find a course that maybe I can take - maybe get the practical stuff that way as I assume I would get a placement that way?

I am a mature student, never been to uni before or done any a levels etc... I live in the Yorkshire area and do not want to move onto campus if possible.

They usually come up in March/April ready for starting in Septemeber and if you're in Yorkshire it would be Leeds or Sheffield Uni for 2 days per week and then 3 days in your nearest hospital.

Do I go via the hospital route though or the uni route? There has been nothing advertised at the local hospitals for months. If I do via uni - which course am I looking at specifically?

Ask at the Jobcentre, they have had the details and should be able to give the reference number for the NHS site
