Can a student studying a HE course of 3 hours per week sign on for benefits if he can't find work?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Its not based on the number of hours of classes though but on the level of participation the course is registered for. As an example, I did a law course which only had eight hours of lessons a week. However we were expected to do an additional 20 hours of private study on top of this, hence it was classed as full time and there was no entitlement to benefits.
bushbaby_de that applies only to course not funded by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA), the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA), Scots or Welsh Ministers. In those cases it is only guided learning hours that are considered and if it's not more than sixteeen guided hours per week, you're not a full-time student
