hiya, not really sure where to post this, but i'm looking to learn Spanish to a high level. am a complete beginner and i'm dyslexic so i really want a course that's going to go over things quite slowly. I've tryed a couple of the free online ones, but the speech quality isn't that good and they throw you in at the deep end try to get you to learn whole sentences at a time. any suggestions would be much appreciated xx

Have you considered evening classes? I've tried Rosetta Stone, fairly expensive, and I wouldn't recommend it.
I saw an advert for the following recently which might be of interest:

Hi, the Michel Thomas course is quite good. There is no reading involved just listening and speaking. As with Rosetta Stone it is not cheap but you may be able to pick a course up on EBay as I did for just a few quid and I got the complete course not just the beginners one.

lol! i have no idea what that says sandy, maybe i can tell you in a week
Enjoy your learning :-)
I studied Spanish and English by skype. Made a few friends and had fun talking with them. After a year of such practice I improved significantly. I recommend you to do the same because it is a lot more fun to study a language with real people than with an interactive online course.
I am currently doing the Rosetta Stone in Spanish and am not that impressed. I'm on the third unit and can understand it quite well but what I've learned is about things I can't see I'm going to use. I could now probably translate 'the man wears a grey suit and a purple tie. He works on Mondays and runs on Saturday. His wife is a redhead and his children are playing in the park with the big black dog and the small blue ball' BUT I have no idea how to actually make conversation.apart from 'hello how are you'!
Hola Prudie, como estas. I also have the Rosetta Stone course but can't follow it very well. It is like going back to primary school and I am too old for all that lol. Although the Michel Thomas course doesn't teach you how to write Spanish it is good for speaking the language. As he is neither Spanish or English his accent can sound a bit strange at first but he does teach well and it seems to stick. I haven't used it for a while but can still remember most of what I learned.
Bien gracias theshedman, y usted ?(??). I know what you mean, I think I would learn better via a good old fashioned school grammar although I have seen several people recommend Michel Thomas. I do know that even if I finish this course with average marks of 95% I still won't be able to converse on holiday!
Hi Prudie, I'm fine thanks. I couldn't find somewhere when I was on holiday and managed to get directions by using my limited Spanish and he understood so I must have learned something. The wife was impressed lol. Maybe if I learn some more she will take me again.

omg!!! i love, love Michel Thomas, i can not believe how much i've learnt in just a few hours!!!! i've just completed the basic course, and i can remember about 80% of it!!(although i have listened to each section about 5 or 6 times)

that's a good idea virmos i'll try that when i've learnt a little more xxxxx
I saw those earworms advertised, has anyone tried them? they look quite handy.
Hi ooh-la-la, glad to hear that you like the Michel Thomas course. The thing I like is that although he doesn't teach the reading and writing part of the language you can often work out what you see written on things. I have to go over each bit loads of times too, but it does seems to stick in the end. Good luck with the rest of it.

hey hey shead man. I like that it doesn't teach the reading and writing as right now my priority is to be able to speck it. It's actually my boyfriends first language so i wanna surprise him and just stat talking it when i see him next!! then i'll let him have the fun job of trying to teach my to write it!! hehehehe!!! Thank You, i hope he teaches me a few naughty words!!!! he he!!! xx
