Irrationally Angry?????
41 Answers
I'm sorry I really just want to rant but I'm absolutely fuming!!!!! I called work this morning to let them know that unfortunately I would not be able to make it in (again!) as the roads are still too icy where I live (very rural) and it's too dangerous (with young children in the car) work has been closed for the last 12 days and is re-opening ofr the first time today as main roads have been cleared. My boss' response was "well so and so lives near you and she's here, you might at least make the effort" now, in some ways I appreciate what she's saying but....maybe so and so has a 4x4 or she doesn't need to take her kids with her or she lives just off the main road and has no problems with icy hills!!! etc etc. The more I think about it the more upset I get - I can't seem to let it go - am I being unreasonable?

Emphasise the fact that you have never taken any time off-and it is not something you take lightly. Maybe she will take into consideration the fact that many people are not confident about driving in icey conditions.
We have the same situation where I work. If someone calls in to say they can't come in due the weather we would normally ask them to try and make it in whatever time they can. It is probably different for you as you have a deadline to make the sandwiches for the kiddies but every effort should be made.
Last Feb when it was icy I was walking very slowly to the bus stop and I slipped and nearly did the splits. I managed to get up though and make it into work. I was late but they understood. And if there was someone who didn't understand they got an eyefull when I waved my bl00dy knee at them! Lol

Sometimes, it is simply a no-win situation.
Several years ago, I battled my way in to work (by car) through 18 miles of snow, about 10" deep.
OK, I got to work an hour late and was greeted with a surprised "What the Hell are you doing here ?"
Several colleagues, who lived within walking distance, had not bothered to come in.
You can imagine how popular I was when they discovered I had come to work and they consequently received a severe reprimand for not turning up that day.

Sorry I wasn't ignoring anyone I was just giving my kids lunch! Yes, it's an ideal job as I get all the holidays off with my boys and - as for the "colleague" who lives near me, she actually works in a different school and just happens to know my boss - I don't know her. The "village" I live in is actually a widespread area of farms and homesteads - this is why people can't understand when they hear someone from this area made it in - it bears no relevance to whether I can get in or not. Nightmare I love you answer! Poor you! Sometimes you just can't win........
