Following on from the 'I hate shopping,' question it got me thinking. As the title suggests,do you consider yourself high maintenance? I often tell my OH how lucky he is. The only thing I ever spend my money on is a decent hair colour and cut and I always buy good shampoos and conditioners.
I've never had a facial, manicure, waxing, pedicure, spray tan etc etc. I rarely wear make up and don't buy expensive lotions and potions.
That said,I have done in the past (I'm 42) but now I'm happy in myself and think I've just decided I've got better things to do with my money and time.
How about you?
I'm low maintenance too, though I'm probably bloody hard work to live with!
Like you, i dont buy make up, well only the odd bits and pieces every few months. Again, no potions or lotions whatsoever, i dont even stick gunk on my face- ever. Clothes, whilst i like them, i often can't afford them, and *this maybe embarrasing*, infact the only (new to me) things ive bought recently all came from charity shops!
I don`t consider myself high maintenance (as far as cosmetics go anyway)! I had a facial once but I can`t see the point when I can shut myself in the bathroom with my Clinique exfoliator, Lush facepack and a tub of Nivea. I`ve never had a manicure as my nails are soft and the varnish comes off after a couple of days and I don`t need to wax as I have very little hair so a Gillette Venus sorts that out.
Ditto to cazzz - I stopped going to the hairdressers as I couldn't afford £30 a month any more - defo low maintenance, me, but my OH wouldn't be paying for any of my stuff anyway.
I think I share your outlook, barb - more interesting things to do with any (when) spare money I have, than pampering. I can't think of the last time I used nail varnish or mascara. I won't go out without my lipstick, though!
Not compared to years ago. I now have my hair cut about 4 times a year, I used to have a cut and colour every 6 weeks. I don't buy so many clothes but what I do buy now tends to be more expensive. I still have a full wax and eyelash tint about every 6 weeks. I now go for skin care products rather than make-up.
slightly high maintenance,i buy expensive make up, lotion and bath products have my nails/eye lash/brow tint once a month.haircut every 6weeks. i do on days i cant be bothered go out without make on.and sometime go to the shops in my jammies :o(
I can't remember the last time I had my hair done, and I've never had a facial,manicure-or any other beauty treatment. I do my own nails...and buy decent mousses/gels for my fine but explosive hair. The idea of anyone fussing over me turns me right off.
I do wear makeup-lippy,shadow and mascara. Have done since my teens. But I have found what I like, and what works and buy only them-no need to experiment any more.
What I do buy is always on 'special'-I refuse to pay full price.
I thought High maintenance was more how much the bloke had to pay out and do for you. I've always spent my own money and me and bloke dont get eachother anything for xmas or birthdays..well maybe little surprises every now and then. Have never done anything expensive on valentines. I tend to buy him more surprises when I see something I think he may like. Someone I knew once got bought a big bunch of flowers for valentines and I then heard her ring her bloke and ask what florists he got them from and then she said 'well they arent s good as the other florists' and she made him take them back and get some more!
i have a hair cut every 6 weeks as i have a very, very short crop, but no blow dry or anything, just a cut. stopped bleaching my hair about 4-5 years ago when the white hairs overtook, only wear lip gloss, buy myself an occasional bottle of 'sunflowers' spray and have never had a leg, bikini or anything else wax, or a spray tan. the only thing i do make sure to have is soft, smooth heels and painted toe nails.
i therefore consider myself to be very low maintenance.
I only have my hair done once or twice a year because it is long but I think I and others would still describe me as high maintenance, I don't go anywhere without make-up and fuss somewhat with my appearance.
Eth, if i could have a luxury, it would be someone to look after my feet. I rarely wear shoes (I'm wearing ski sox and crocs at the moment only because it's cold), and my feet are far from soft and smooth as a result....
Oh and my best mates a hairdresser so I get a cut every couple of months and then a colour and cut on my birthday from her and then for xmas. Luckily my bday is smack bang in middle of year :-) I dont wear make-up, only when I am out at parties, and I get enough bath stuff, toiletries at xmas to last me a year lol
snap boxy, i have my crocs on too, although no ski socks, don't get on with socks in the house, like to have bare feet.
i've never paid to have anything done to my feet, i just slap on a bit of boots heel softening cream every day, takes 30 seconds, and paint the toenails when they need it. i have a bit of a hate phobia about feet, really can't abide them, so keeping mine as nice as possible is a necessity.
Interesting answers. Oh by the way,I tell my OH he's lucky not because he pays for anything (I've ALWAYS paid for all my own things...very independent!) but I imagine a bloke would get pretty irritated by some of the very high maintenance ladies out there. Is it an age thing though? Not sure how old or young some of you are but I really do think you kind of grow into your skin and become a lot more accepting of what nature gave you as you reach your 40's and beyond. I even went from blonde to dark about 2 years ago so I don't have to go to the hairdressers as often (I have super fast growing hair and used to get terrible roots) I just find sitting still being pampered the most boring thing in the world. Would rather be active anyday. Glad most of you seem to share my view but 'if you don't,then fair play to you. Enjoy yourselves whatever you do.
Cheers barb - I do know a couple of blokes though who are so particular about their women's appearance, they would pay for anything. Can't see the point, we are US not smoke'n'mirrors! I'm happy in my own skin, I think you are right, you learn to love what you have.
@Boxtops. Wow I don't think my OH pays any attention to my appearance. He's too busy playing his bl***y keyboard or piano. I often joke that if I pole danced naked in front of him,he'd still not take his eyes off his music :)
No one to maintain me.
Lip salve and moisturiser. However luckily have my favourite perfume Anais Anais from my daughter at Christmas, together with lots of other presents.
