Soon i'll be volunteering to help backstage at a local production of 'Oliver' and the guy whose incharge of all the backstage crew said we could put it down on our CVs. If it's one of the most recent things I've done and I haven't had a proper job yet, could i still put him down for a reference rather than just mention it? And especially seeing as he's younger than me? Does that make a difference?

That's if it goes well of course, but it is nice to have recent references, and I'll have three, plenty enough, this guy, my form tutor and commanding officer at cadets . . .

If you do the job well enough, I can't see him having a problem with being a referee, ask him (but not immediately you start). Age doesn't matter.

I will do, as he already mentioned about the CV, and I'm sure he would, but don't you lot agree that it's nice to have a recent reference that you actually worked/ volunteered for rather than the school I ddi work experience at 2 years ago?

Any reference is ok ... as long as it's a good one, of course.

all references are important Molly and this one will show you were keen to work even thogh you were not getting paid. This will count as a character reference if nothing else

Doc spoc, I'll be practicing at a few rehersals and i'll do a maximum of 8 performances over about 3 weeks, (some of the other ones are on cadet nights so i won't do them).

Any (good) reference is useful. One thing I would say is that you should never give anyone's name as a reference without getting their agreement before you do it.

agree with scotman Molly if you dont have a written reference always ask the persons permission before giving their name or you could get a lousy reference out of spite
