my son is interested in a career in banking. What degree courses would stand stand him in the best stead for future city banking employment?

Off the top of my head I'd say Economics or Business Studies but I think banks might take on graduates based more on their aptitiude through the recruiting process rather than their degree subject. Just surmising, don't know.
our youngest is an investment banker, he has a degree in computer science.

Masters in Business Admin

and get into the best Uni that he can
though they will look at folk with 1sts in anything - when his age I had interviews with Rothschilds, BofE, Citigroup, Morgans but went for a career in energy
A degree in business administration would be best. A lot of coursework in finance and accounting, but all business disciplines will be important.
