broken camera no recipt
Hi. I bought a Sony camera in June and yesterday it completely stopped working. It was from Tesco, but due to clumsiness and a house move I've lost the recipt and any paperwork/instruction books it came with.
What if anything can be done?? Would tesco tell me it not there problem? I would've used my clubcard so would they have a record of the transaction? Would Sony be any help?

A transaction would show up on my debit card, but I got a few other things that evening too so it's not the exact amount, how do they know i didn't just buy loads of food?
I didn't realise that it should or could have been registered....
I guess I'll just have to go in and speak to them and see what they say. Thanks all!

Your statutory rights are not affected by the absence of a receipt. (I've had a faulty laminator replaced by Sainsbury's and a faulty power supply replaced by Maplin, both without receipts).
Your purchase has developed a fault within the first 6 months of purchase so, unless there's clear evidence to the contrary (such as the dents where you dropped your camera from the top of the Eiffel Tower), the law automatically assumes that the problem has arisen because of a fault which was present at the time of purchase (such as the use of poor quality components, or poor workmanship). So Tesco is legally obliged to repair or replace your camera. (I repeat that the absence of a receipt does not remove that obligation from Tesco).
Go and hassle them!

I remember a while back somebody had an accident at Tesco and suffered and injury and subsequently sued.
Tesco used as their defence the fact that the injured had a clubcard history of buying a lot of alcohol, so probably was drunk.
Needless to say, they backtracked and lost the case, the victim got his compensation.
