A few years ago someone at work got burgled but managed to catch the cuplrits on CCTV. Apparently she said the police wouldnt review the CCTV footage as her camera was angled in such a position that it also captured part of her next door neighbours garden. They said it contravened the Data Protection Act.
As I only heard this story third hand -is this likely to be true?
No it isn't. The police would review the tape irrespective of whether it pointed over someone else's property.
In any event according to the Information Commissioner's website if the cameras are for personal domestic purposes they are exempt from the DPA.
