Please Help - Problems with X and joint mortgage

I am at an absolute loss as to what to do next ... I have lots of debt, so struggling financially, so can't afford a solicitor & don't qualify for any assistance help as debt doesnt qiy as priority ....

I split from x-partner 2 years ago - divorce all completed and all assets split apart from rental property, as he said he was (verbally, not in writing) that he would take the house to live in ... time went by and he got a girlf, who he now lives with - and as such doesnt want the house ... which would have been fine apart from:

1) 2 payments in arrears from when tennant was in - no idea where this money is as was paid to him and he is not responding to all calls/emails
2) The mortgage co. has been charging £35 x19 because of these arrears ... I didn't know the above until today when I called the mortgage company :(
3) X (when did contact me months ago) made it clear, now, that he is prepared to let the mortgage default
4) I can't get the mortgage put into my name, as I would need to remortgage and the house is in negative equity, so prob wouldnt get a mortgage anyway coz of debt - but they certainly wont lend me more than house is worth ...

called the mortgage company and they (thankfully) refunded the fees, but still need to clear the arrears - and dont know what to do with the house !?? X wont respond to me, he has the keys, he won't pay half for the currently vacant proprty, but also isnt proactively trying to get a tennant ... his thoughts are, he doesnt want the house now, so he wants to just get rid - anyway he can ...

I have been a mess for the last few hours ... any advice would be great ...

if he doesn't want it and neither do you can you sell it?
or you find a tennant?
or change the locks?

If you can't afford a solicitor, can you qualify for the free half hour which most solicitors will give people? or go to the CAB, they are very helpful with advice.

move into the property with him (as it is half yours) and stay there until he starts paying and stops being a dick.

The house is vacant - I would be happy to take over to rent it out, but he has the keys ... moved address/email/telephone number so cant get hold of him at all .... goin to get the free 1 hour legal advice and see whats next ... :( and yes, he is a tool. He was a horror when we were together and looks like he is still an idiot
