Obligatory photo when using cash/credit card

I'm sure the technology is available to take a photo of the card holder every time a credit or debit card is used either in store or at a cash machine. Even face recognition software could detect if the person wasn't looking at the camera 'face on', or was wearing a facial covering of some kind.

Would this help in reducing card fraud? Would you object to having your photo taken?

I would welcome such security measures.

For a short while, RBS issued ATM cards with a laser-embossed image of the cardholder on the reverse.

I have no idea why they decided to stop doing so.

Because it cost money JtH - also some people objected to providing a photo.

Plus no-one ever checked them in shops - and it makes no difference in an ATM ...

I''m not sure how it would deter fraud apart from those cases where a family member/close friend uses someone's card without permission. If a transaction is reported as fraudulent by a cardholder then i can't see the photo being much use in many cases.

I hope they don't do it because I use OH's card very very often.

It won't work for on line transactions either.

Sorry, I meant Debit Card (pre-chip and pin) rather than straightforward ATM card.

When the card was handed over for 'swiping' the Cashier could check the identity of the card-holder.
