Sorry chaps, they DO sometimes agree to go home of their own accord - often when they come to realise just how long going through the asylum process is going to take. But, then again, we DO rather often give them money if they agree to be shipped to their homeland voluntarily. Some of them have even been known to turn up again, for a second bite.
There was a case only recently when someone tried to go home but didn't have a passport - instead of letting him go (sanity), he was arrested and kept here.

hc - a typical Sun story that implies that UKBA is at fault. Hogwash. Without the passport but with the admission by the illegal that he is Indian (whatever) nationality and he is willing to return, UKBA can get the embassy of the national a temporary travel document, but they aren't at liberty to determine the speed at which the document is provided.
There are many who want to return home as they have realised that life here is not as good as they hoped for. The problem is that most of them have destroyed their passports and so there is no proof of where they came from. Without proof the home countries do not have to provide new travel documents and some of the countries do not really want them back anyway so refuse to cooperate. They are caught in a trap , they were told to destroy their passports so that they could not be sent home , but now they want to return but can't.
There was an interesting article in the Times about this a few years ago.
There's some UK agency that pays to repatriate illegal immigrants.
They were given a lump sum & further aid to help them set up businesses in their own country.
The Times sent an undercover reporter of asian origin who was offered his lump sum, 6 months rent on his business premises & 6 months wages for 2 assistants.
The business he told them he intended setting up?
A travel agency to assist illegal immigrants to come to Britain.
"There's some UK agency that pays to repatriate illegal immigrants"
Yes, that's UK Borders Agency (UKBA), the organisation that is tasked with the job of marshalling our borders, administering the asylum process. It was spun-off from the Home Office many years ago so they could focus on the job in hand. Unfortunately it turned out to be a complete fiasco under nooo Labour and the Tories haven't managed to get a grip either.
If I lost my passport that doesn't mean I lose my British citizenship. If they are illegals and wan't to go home just contact the country they are alleged to come from.
It happens in many places, illegal immigrants are often hiding from authorities coz once they caught, they will be jailed. But that is sad thing to know that they only do that to get a better life and earn higher money. And some false agent took advantage those people who aims to get a better life and offers a job to other countries, took money to the poor people and cant even guarantee a work for them.
