My mother died a couple of months ago,she was in a care home and the costs were coming out of her and my late father's savings. The social services had control of all my mother's finances. I understand that anyone with assets below £23,250 the state would pay the care home costs. I have found out that there is less than £17,000 left in my mother's estate how can this be? I'm really angry about this as i know my parents were well off, where has all the money gone! She was in the care home for about 3 years.

You're welcome, katz. Yes, she is.
3 years worth of an "average" amount of fees could easily be £150k
That's a very good price, Tilly. Round here the average is £872 per week!
Hi Katz...be careful who you talk to about information on fees.
This morning I had a meeting with the care home workers and a social worker who will decide whether we need to move Mum to a nursing home.
I was told, by the people who should know, that if she stays in the care home she won't have to pay anything once her savings are down to £23,250.
I disagreed with this as my research had shown that we will pay a Tariff Income until the savings get down to £14,250.....and this is what we have been doing.
After a lot of searching through paper work and hand books it was discovered I was correct.
The social worker said she felt embarrassed because she and her colleagues had been giving out the wrong information....no wonder we get confused if they can't get it right.
So...beware...those who should know....often don't. ☺
