Prompted by a message from Queenie as to Nungate being phoned for, I responded that this week, a letter came through from Western Power addressed to my father.

He died in 1989.

Are Utility companies up their own proverbials?

What happened to database management

Any great examples/screw-ups from your experience?

I don't have any personal examples but I have always said that with the advent of computers, customer service went down the pan. Nobody knows anything as they are governed by the computer. I don't think it just utility companies.
Years back our computer at work had a glitch and letters were sent out to dead people. It wasn't well received.
A friend of mine, 20 years ago, opened a letter addressed to his late sister which began, "Dear Mrs xxxx (deceased)".
Jd. That was probably from us. DHSS, BA, DWP and whatever other names there were. I believe that we also managed to kill off some live people.
Yes, I had letters addressed to my Husband marked (deceased), Companies who refused to discuss matters unless they spoke to him (despite me having just a moment ago told them why I rang).


One charming young lady brought a tearful smile though , I rang to cancel a medical plan on the day he died - she ended our call with a very cheery 'Have a lovely afternoon.'
