Best Way To Backup On Windows 8?

I have W8.1 and have bought an external hard drive to backup files. I am trying to use Windows File History but after the initial backup, when I connect the hard drive again to backup the latest files, it doesn't seem to back any up (File History IS turned on). Does anyone know what may be the problem, or if there is another/better way to back up all my files automatically. Thanks!

Sorry not answering your question but you really should try to move up to Windows 10 if you can.

Far better than W8 which was a dogs dinner.

You can upgrade to W10 for free by pretending you use assistive technology.
