Landlords Allowing Pets Law.?

Hi Any more news on the law that states Landlords must allow pets.? I have a Cat for therapy and a note from my Doctor saying i need to have a Pet and am worried a Landlord won't allow.

I rent, and have a cat with permission from the landlord.

However I support the right for the landlord to decide whether to allow tenants to have pets.

It needs to be noted that the Bill was introduced to the House under the 10 Minute Rule. Although dozens of such Bills are placed before Parliament every year, only 16 have been passed into law during the past thirty years. Bills introduced under the 10 Minute Rule are usually just ways of individual Members expressing their opinions and almost inevitably fall by the wayside, either because the Government actively opposes them in their later stages or simply because there isn't enough time in the Parliamentary calendar for them to be debated.

The Bill referred to you in your post was introduced to the House 14 months ago and, because it wasn't opposed at the time (as is the convention for 10 Minute Rule Bills), it was automatically deemed to have passed through its First Reading stage. However no date has ever been set for the Bill's second reading, which suggests that it's effectively dead and buried.

PS: Because the Parliamentary Session under which the Bill was presented to the House has now ended, it can't go any further unless it's re-introduced to the House. Unless the Government decides to do so (rather than leaving it to a Private Member once again), that simply isn't going to happen.
