Insurance and parking on double yellow lines
Whilst reversing into a parking spot, my partner 'nudged' the car behind. The car she nudged was parked on double yellow lines, but the space my partner was reversing into was clear of the double yellows. Although there was no visible damage, the owner of the other car is claiming that his car now has a scuff on the front bumper.
Does the fact that the other car was ilegally parked have any impact on whether my partner is liable.
PS - we dispute that, based on the position of the scuff, that it could have been caused by my partners car, we think the owner of the other car is trying it on.

The matter of matching up the damage is another thing entirely. This is a popular scam. If you still have the opportunity, it would be worth photographing the damage, and the relevant parts of your car. Also measure the position of the damage, including its height above ground level. It is unlikely that you will need these things, and he will probably not pursue the claim then.
