I am currently looking into the posssiblity of taking on my bank (like everybody else is doing!) in relation to overdraft charges. However, I have recently cancelled one of my accounts and it is this account which notched up the lion's share of charges. Does anyone know if I can still claim against this account despite having cancelled it?

Yes you can. Hurrah! You are in a win win situation here - there is no retaliatory action the bank can take against you.

If it gets to court, the precedent will be set - and the banks are doing everything they can to avoid this.

Excellent independent advice, letter templates and a forum are all available here:

Many thanks Ethel.

I think I just need that initial push to get the ball rolling and then see where it takes me. There is certainly a plethora of advice out there. Your link looks very comprehensive.

Here goes...
Also go to MoneySavingsExpert.com and read the article on the Home page about reclaiming bank charges.
You will also at the end of the article a forum on Success Stories of people who have gone ahead and claimed, which hopefully will encourage you not to hesitate at the first hurdle.
WendyS - that's exactly where the link takes you. :)
