i've been working for the same employer for 12 years and during this time i've been allowed to take my holiday as i chose to as long as i gave enough notice. however, this year my boss has decided to close for a week at the beginning of august which means myself and a few of my colleagues dont have enough holiday left to cover the five days. is my boss entitled to do this? thanks for your help

There is no right to take annual leave at a specified time.

Basically your best bet is to appeal to his better nature but be prepared to take unpaid leave.

You could offer to do a little extra each week to build up the necessary time if this is agreed by your boss
