Airport auctions

Does anyone know anything about airport auctions? I remember seeing on telly a programme where the lost property department at Heathrow auctioned off lost luggage. Do other UK airports do this?

OK not an airport but, I work for P&O Ferries, what they do with lost property is every year around now they send out a list of all of the items nobody has claimed. Mostly Camera's, Jewelry and Phones with the odd CD Player thrown in. Staff can bid on the items using a sealed bid system where you make an offer and if its the highest you get the item. All the money goes to one of our charities of the year.

Most public authorities will auction goods, usually through an auction house that has offered the best terms for doing so.
The post office (in all of it's guises) regularly auctions what they term as 'undeliverable' items.
The police force auctions unclaimed items that have been lost, found, confiscated, redundant evidence etc.
Court baillifs auction seized goods.
Airports will auction lost, unclaimed goods etc.
The list goes on . . . . and on . . . . . and on . . . .
