hi all don't know if you will remeber but a while ago i asked about a residency order for my grandson after some of the answers i have read i feel very privilaged that we now have residency after only 6 weeks passed yesterday but i am unfortunatly confused my question is - even thogh i have residency and i understand my daughter also has parental responsibility along with us what rights does that give her??????? - she is only allowed supervised access via social services but she is telling me that she is the one to make hte decisions - very confused.
hi maggs1703
first of all congratulations on your order i know what a mine field this is as we have been through it with my husbands children.
Parental responsibility gives you legal rights as well as responsibilities. She has the right to be involved in decisions such as your grandson,s education, medical treatment and religion.
Residence order simply determines where the child lives.
My husbands ex is quite happy for us to make all the above decisions as she rarely sees the boys
Dont know if her having supervised access through social services would change anything
Because you have a residency order from the court you are the person who can make decisions concerning your grandson. Your daughters parental responsibility is the same as say absent father, can receive school reports etc.
Supervised contact order shows that she really isn't trusted by the court.. You can sign any documeny, passport etc
What I am trying to say is, you are in charge.
Good luck and well done
many thanks to you all that answered i hope i have it all clear in my mind now. i now i think understand that my daughter can no longer call the shots where my grandson is concerened and i have to remain strong for him. even though she has also parental resaponsibility but now only a small part. again many thanks.
