(cheery eh? lol)

I have been away from my (frankly mental) violent ex for 9 years, our son is now 11 and hasnt even seen him for years, thank God.

What can I do to make sure that,if God forbid, anything happened to me my son would go to my mum or sister and not his father?

Would a will be enough?

A will can still be contested, but of course at 11 your son is able to make his wishes known, and the courts always place paramount importance on this - 'the welfare of the child'.

So, with a will naming a suitable legal guardian and your son's ability to categorically state that he hasn't seen his father for x years and doesn't want to, that will be enough.
