Shift allowance variation

Hi there. i currently work shifts along with 90% of the people i work with. I only get a poor �25 per week shift allowance and nightshift get double that (which i totally agree with). My problem and a lot of others i work with is that the shift supervisors gets double of everyone else, which we all think is wrong. They work the same hours as all of us and i am under the impression that the allowance is for inconvenience not status. We do not have any union but i am just wondering if this is against the law to pay different amounts? Thanks if anyone can help with the answer.

Don't think that it's against the law as they don't actually have to pay you a shift allowance anyway! Also, some companies pay shift allowance as a percentage of salary - so the higher the salary (and I'm assuming that the shift supervisors get a higher basic wage than you) the higher the shift allowance. Also, the shift supervisors will have more responsibility/accountability than you - so from their perspective, they probably feel that they deserve more! Hope this helps.

With all due respect, I work the same hours as my boss but I get paid a lot less than him as he has more responsibility.
