My limited company rented a shop premises in 2006 we had to leave as the landlord would not sort out a damp problem that ruined the stock. This caused the company massive debt and ceased trading. There has been a proposal to strike off. We had paid business rates up to date and informed council that company had vacated premises and why. Today I get a baliff at my home address demanding i pay business rates or posession of my goods will be taken. He addressed it under company name, I tried explaining it was my home address and not a business address and i am liable to pay. Am I liable for my ltd companies business rates? I have already had my home reposessed as my money went into company

A limited company is just that.....limited to the company. Was the registered office your home address by any chance? If it wasn't , they have no right knocking on your door. Rent and rates would have been specified in your lease. You perhaps should consult someone in the know.
