I am a manager at work and have sent a text to someone in error, it was intended as a bit of football banter for a colleague, but got sent to an individual who I have previous with and even though it was obviously not meant for him, he has reported me and I have attended an investigation, in which two other colleagues were interviewed. The intended recipient admitted to the banter and that we were in the middle of exchanging text. But after the investigation I have been asked to attend a disciplinary next week, I was also asked if this incident had made my position as untennable.
What do you believe I should do as I have already admitted it was a 100% genuine mistake?

However, if it was unlawful you could be disciplined and the sanction could even be sacking if the matter was racist, sexist or defamatory since employers have a duty of care to all employees and, their failure to deal with such incidents would open them the possibility of litigation in which the damages could be punitive.and costly. What should govern their decision should be to respond in a reasonable and proportionate
way under the circumstances.
In any case you should get representation and legal advice from your union, the citizens' advice bureau or some other source. Do any of your insurance policies offer legal protection?
