is there a standard/law to say which boubry fence in your garden you are resposible for (left hand side or right hand side).

There is no standard - it varies. And 'responsible for' is a bit of a misnomer. If it is your fence you can remove it altogether if you wish - in most cases you don't 'have to' repair it.

is there a standard/law to say which boundary fence in your garden you are responsible for (left hand side or right hand side).
You need to look at your deeds, which will clearly show who owns what (hopefully).

There should be T markings along the boundary. The top of the T lies along the boundary and the bottom of the T lies on the side of the owner of the boundary.

The only responsibility is to ensure it is safe. That can include totally removing the boundary fence/wall/hedge.
