They Say I Owe Money
Insurance co say I owe them some money for finishing with them before annual term is up. I have no paperwork that says this, and when I finished their rep on phone said we were straight, neither side owed anything. I have recieved 2 invoices for 200 now and have written letters disputing this and asking how they arrive at the figure. After looking at what they say I stil dispute this and dont believe I owe them any money. They say they will give me 7 days before passing to debt collection agency, they also mention bailifs. Can they do this when I am still in dispute with them, and need to look into it further? It isn't that I owe them and wont pay, I dont agree yet that i do owe them ? They are not giving me enough time to look into this further. Anyone advise me please - TIA

But at least you have 7 days to 'look into it further'. Tell the insurers you want a written explanation of how they arrive at the figure and then you will pay within 7 days if the amount is agreed; but if it turns out they were wrong and yet but that if they still call in the bailiffs you will take the matter to the press and insurance ombudsman.
But I have a feeling the insurance company must be sure of its ground. If you cancel early you don't normally get a pro rata refund - so if for example you had paid 6 months premiums and then cancelled after 6 months you may find you have to pay some more.
