Is it registered at the Land Registry? That is the first thing you need to know.,

Are you in possession of the land and property?
like ethel says go to land registry, But what if they have left a will to someone ?
I have the deeds to my old house - but the new owners are the ones on the Registered Title at the Land Registry.

If the land is registered, the deeds are defunct. Mortgage companies no longer keep them as they are just useless bits of paper taking up space.

If the land is unregistered the Deeds are important, but possession of the Deeds don't prove ownership or entitlement.
