putting utility bils in an assumed name advantages ?

are there any advantages , and also PIFALLs , in putting down , a false name , for utilty BILLING , purpose , ie elec , gas , BT ?

I really can't see what the advantages of it would be.

I work with contracts and I recently negotiated a contract with BT to supply all our telephone needs and I managed to knock them down to a very good rate because of the size of business and the amount of users.

In the next few months our current electricity contract will expire and I'm only just starting to source vendors to suply us with electricity and I know for a fact that I will get cheaper rates than the average home owner simply because of the amount of electricity my Company uses.

So, even if you did set up a faux business, the service will still be provided to your home, and you will not be eligiable for cheaper rates because you won't be agreeing to use X amount of electricity in X amount of time. If you told them that you would and you didn't use nearly half of that, you would be in breach of your contract with them.

So, my answer is I see no benefit of setting up any of these services under an assumed name or a business name.

Don't think you will find any advantages to doing this. Being an ex law student you will know all about money laundering for new clients. They have to produce two forms of identifiation, one of which must be photgraphic (ie Passport or Driving Licence) and a form of their address (ie utility bill). Therefore if the name on the passport/drviing licence is different from the one on the utility bill it will not be accepted as identification.

yes i had to slam the door , a few years ago ,,,,, while i had someone ,,,, from these companies tellig me , your bills are goping up "" ... tell me something new ...... i replied i shut the door abrubtly ........ meaning i wasnt going to sign with him .... (some years ago Virgin , were canvassing in EDmonton NorthLondon ..... and there canvassers were falsifying forms ,....... saying people had changed when thet hadnt .... i mean theses reps only had to know , the surnames of the householders ,,,,. and they could fraudently ..... CHANGE SUPPLIERS .... with these toe rags getting commossion

Well, they have to source their customers somehow, I guess canvassing works or it wouldn't still be onoing.

Not all service providers are lying to you when they tell you they are cheaper, y'know.

my answer to them is that , even without the internety , you can change , SUPPLIER , without , having a DOOR KNOCKER signing you over ,, i remeber when the world cup , was pn two years ,,,,,ago DOOR KNOCKERs wer on the increase ,,,, not just Utilties ,...home improvement comapnies ,,,, etc ,,, in you case - youue company uses a fair amount of electricty ,,,,, for the private user ,,, it isnt worth getting steamed up aboutr ....

But they know that a large percentage of the general public will not get off their bums to shop around, I kow I don't. I have absolutely no idea if I could get my gas and electricity cheaper elsewhere and they know I don't know it, which is the point of canvassing.

I agree that it's annoying though. I don't even answer my door to be honest, if it's a friend or family, I know in advance that they're coming, everyone else is ignored.
