common law is a ass there should be some sort of law stateing the partner has some rights may be not to the house but to the contents of the place . i have been liveing with my partner for 8 years and payed for up keep and helped pay for and do things to the house and your saying im going to have to leave with only the shurt on my back after 8 years some things wrong here its not right . if i leave can i get the courts to give me half the contents of the house .
So you've been paying for half the food, which you would have eaten wherever you lived, and half the bills which would have had to be paid wherever you lived.
Lodgers pay that, and more, but don't expect to leave with a pay off.
im not a lodger i live here for now anyway and don't want a pay off i just think that after 8 years i should have something the law needs to change if you live with someone for a long time you should have the rights as a married person after all now gays that ender a civil relationship have the same rights as a married person so why can't i ????
