Visit from employer while signed off

Hi all,

Just need some advice.
I am currdently signed of work after having a operation on my foot, i have been off ofr the past 4 weeks,

I had a visit form my manager and team leader on friday as apparantley people think i am lying and faking my injury...My manager told me the higher up boss was fuming that i was lying and was told to sort it out !!! so they visited me at home whilw i was signed off and gave me an unofficial telling off...i was back at the doctors today who has signed me off for another 2 weeks,

Can my employers do this while i am sigend off .i now feel like i am unable to return to my job as i feel everything i do will be watched and if i am ever off sick again i will be in touble,

just need to know where i can from here

My son has broken his leg and he is off for 12 weeks :-(

Apparantly, some work places won't allow you back to work in case you can't get out of a building if there was a fire.

Employer visits whilst on sick leave are very common - usually disguised as 'welfare' and with a view to finding ways to get the employee to return to work.

Your manager was very wrong to say your boss thinks you are lying, even if he was being truthful. There are ways and means to do these things.

When my employees were off with this sort of problem, I provided transport to get them to and from the workplace so they didn't have to drive, and assistance whilst at work, perhaps on reduced hours until they were fully fit.

Your employer can request you to see a company doctor but while they haven't done so, carry on regardless.

Tetjam how would you know what's wrong with his/her foot some conditions which affect feet can be very serious and especially in diabetic people and can result in permanent disability

Anyway - if you have a union get in touch with tem straight away - if not make sure you have an independant witness next time the boss calls and get the witnes to take notes - - may prove useful if they attmpt to dismaiis you

Some employers are so understanding when dealing with people who are sick others like yours are not

Wholly agree with Ethel - a good employer should be maintaining contact with an employee when they are off - it's a two-way thing. More employers should be doing it - especially in the public sector.

I totaly Agree With Buildersmate. I do work in the Public sector and Sick Leave is Very bad.

Day off for a runny nose is not Unheard of. To many waste of spaces.

Thats due to the fact they are paid While they are on sick leave.......

I have worked in the Public sector for ... 25+ Years and have been fortunate that i keep good Health.

Im at times Embarresed that i work for the Local Authority .... Not that we are paid to much ......Never the case ..... WE are always the underdogs on the pay scale.

And have been givin the Dogs leftovers ....When it comes to pay awards.

essentially, yes they can visit you to see you are in fact unwell, but they must also accept your sick note for two weeks. if they say anything else about it other than when are you due back (occaisionally) constitutes harrassment. don't panic - it was probably a worlk mate winding them up or a stray comment got out of hand...

My oldest son broke his big toe. Doctor at hospital told him to rest etc. for two to three weeks.

When my son, who is a self employed carpenter, said he would be back to work the following day, the doctor said he thought it was strange how the bones of self employed people heal the quickest!

Maybe this highlights the difference between public sector workers and the rest of us!

It doesn't highlight anything.

I broke my toe too, though I didn't realise at the time, carried on working and ended up unable to walk properly for a further six weeks. As a postman that was a problem, and whether I worked for them or myself, if I couldn't work, then that was that. Being off work wasn't my choice as I lost money, but I had no choice but to get better first.
