my mum who is 75 left the bath taps running upstairs and it overflowed causing bad water damage to the kitchen below. she has house and contents insurance does anyone know if she would be able to make a claim to cover the repairs ?
She should be able to claim although she will need to check if she has Accidental Damage covered as a peril on her policy, if not i would strongly doubt she could claim.
With accidental damage cover - yes. Otherwise she should be able to as most companies would consider it escape of water from a fixture. But some may resist. If the claim is refused invoke the complaints procedure and go all the way to the Ombudsman. It won't cost anything and the chances of success are high.
Hello, I am glad to see that you have put the claim in, however, the insurers may return and state that they will not pay out due to contributory negligence. Hpefully this will not happen, however if it does there may be some way around this.
