By having your car repaired yourself you have left yourself open to allowing the insurance company to refuse your claim because of you breaching a claims condition.
I would suspect that you have a way around this due to the amount of time they have taken to acknowledge your claim and get round to viewing the repair quotation (the FSA Financial services authority) have strict guidelines that state that an insurance company must deal with claims quickly and fairly.
If you explain the situation to the insurance company and supply them with a full breakdown of costs and tell the mthat you have paid this then there is no reason for them not to pay out.
