working boxing day for normal pay!!!

hiya i just wondered if any 1 could help me i have been told that i am working boxing day for normal pay this year every other year has been double time so ive dug my contract out and it says: it will sometimes be necessary for you to work on bank/public holidays,and you will receive double your normal rate of pay so can i refuse to work for normal pay? thanks guys xx sabina x

Usually, in a profession where 7 day working is normally required (e.g. Transport, Emergency services, Care homes etc) the bank holiday is the actual day and not the day used by banks as the bank holiday. Using Boxing Day as an example then if you work for police Dec 26th is bank holiday, if you work in an office Monday 28th would be the bank holiday.
