Im not with his mother and havent been since before he was born, she contacted me to say the child was mine when he was around 2yrs old. he is now 4 and a half. Do i need to get her permission to do a dna test? if i did do it without her permission what would be the consequences?

£99 - DIY kits, WOW! You dont need permission from mother as she gave you rights when she claimed you as child's father.

you can buy a kit to satisfy your own curiosity, you dont need to involve the mother

You don't say whether or not you have been paying Child Support for this child and I can understand your need to know the truth. If he turns out not to be however, and you have been seeing him regularly, have you thought about the impact it might have on his young life if the person he thought was "Daddy" suddenly disappearsand has not further contact with him because he is not his legal parent?
