Liver Count to regain Driving License

My husband lost his license in 2005 and hasn't bothered to renew it. As he was a heavy drinker but has now given up, does anyone know how long it takes the liver to return to normal readings to get his license back?

Chance of never returning back to normal readings as my Uncle was in exactly same situation, but 6 months without a drink his liver readings still was not "normal" so unless he was to argue in court then he's not going to get his licence back. Your husband should see GP

What supplements, herbs, vitamins, food or medication is he taking to help his liver rejuvenate itself?

He is taking thiamine and Vit B, prescribed by the doctor. I take your point nm but does anyone know the acceptable reading of the Gamma GT Blood Test. I know normal is 45 whatever they are called.

The way I see liver reading being higher than normal after 6 months of NO alcohol, will not get back to a normal reading again and providing not over limit then should be no reason for DVLA preventing re-issuing licence once bans been served and application for licence sent off. I would say - 90% chance that even when 2x over legal limit, the standard of driving is STILL better than most sober drivers.

of the tests require the liver function (Gamma GT, AST) will no normally be the main problem. MCV is. Mean Cell Volume (average size of red blood cells) in general will only reduce if the reason for the increase, in this case excessive drinking, is removed. As MCV is by definition an average, every time a red blood cell is replaced by the body's natural function, the MCV will fall, so so long as nothing is being done to malform the new cells. Bottom line is that it takes, on average 120 days for the Human body to completely replace the red blood cells. abstinence from any drink drugs etc during that time is likely, in most cases to cause the two liver function tests mentioned above to show results within the normal range. The final test, Blood/Alcohol level will, at that point not be an issue except for someone who stupidly goes on a bender a couple of days or so before the tests.
