Our neighbours have erected builders scaffolding to make a tent. They intend to use it over the xmas period for parties. Is this legally permissible and if not, what's to be done?

well a marquee can be erected in gardens for up to 28 days without permission, i believe so i cant see why a tent would be ilegal.

The noise may be a problem, parties in back garden, but you cant complain about that until it happens
is it in their garden/on their land?

have they not invited you then?
I'm hoping to get something erected over the Christmas period and I doubt it will last 28 days.

What is the issue with it?
I am sorry -- but what exactly is your problem.Ok The neighbours have a tent in their garden and they are going to have parties , what info exactly are you wanting to know?. Is it noise , nuisance, people what.?
The potential for lewd behaviour, perhaps. Disgraceful.

Its going to cost them to heat it in this weather!
We are putting up a marquee which will fill our back garden for ourNew Year's Eve bash... we take down the fence and share it with our next-door neighbour.

Why don't you like it?
The 28 day temporary structure rule does not apply within the curtilage of a building. So unless it complies with normal house extension permitted development rights it is unauthorised. Good luck getting the Council to take action before it is removed anyway though.
