A few weeks ago i was out drinking with a friend, an argument had started between me and an older male in the bar, within moments he had punched me in the jaw. My friend immediately tried to intervene but i stopped him and we both left the bar before things could escalate. Me and my friend waited outside for friends to catch a taxi home, while waiting we decided to go get a kebab during this time the older male from inside the bar had made his was out the bar and was stood round the corner from the kebab shop, i confronted him about what had happened in the bar and we were soon enough face to face, after telling him to 'F off' he head butted me, i took a step back and punched him to the ground, he stayed down for a few moments but then got up and came at me in an aggressive manner fast paced with clenched fists, i struck him with a second punch as he came at me, again he hit the floor and stayed there for a few moments, sure enough he got up and for a second time he came at me in the same manner, i then punched him again causing him to hit the ground and stay down. i was concerned as he had a lot of blood over his face, i approached him as he sat up and asked him he was alright to which he replied 'just F off' so i left. 2 weeks later two officers came to my home and arrested me on suspicion of ABH, my friend with me on the night was also arrested for the same offence. we both gave statements of the actual events, the 'victim' has claimed it was both of us who assaulted him. we have both since attended bail and have both been charged with 'common assault' i intend to get a solicitor on Monday but was just wondering if anyone could share some advise or views on what the outcome could be.

Forgot to mention we are both due to attend court at the end of the month.
why does everyone charged with assault give such a ... vibrant account?
To put the provocation side of things...

Common assault is not considered that serious....so I wouldn't worry too much.
Is there no CCTV in that area?

sara, i give a 'detailed' description of exactly what happened that night to give the reader a good idea of what happened so i hopefully get some helpful answers.

Katie, I don't believe they have CCTV due to the fact my friend is also being charged for beating the 'victim' also. My guess is if there was CCTV then it would have only been me charged or neither of us. Ive been told by a local lad that the guy is a trainee police officer, maybe this is why they are taking his word rather than ours, could be a load of rubbish though.
Right, in that case you need to do your homework!!!! Coppers look after coppers - I have personal experience of this. Go back to where this happened and see for yourself if there are cameras in the bar and out in the street. I hope you have a good solicitor - if not, get one!!!!
if there are any shops around they might have cctv
